Yeah l know, 'record covers' gives away my age (40 two weeks ago! Help! Help!), but does anybody have any favorites. I think the best Boney M album sleeve is Oceans of Fantasy because of the gate fold cover and the big poster inside. My favorite single cover is 'l'm Born Again', I think both Liz and Marcia look beautiful. I also loved the UK cover shot for Marcia's single 'You' which to me was so much nicer than the European cover. Worst album cover has to be 'Eye Dance', no group shot and no Boney M logo. Worst cover , worst album.

'Record Covers'... It sounds just so much more stylsh! I'm of an age that appreciates the Design style and art form that is the vinyl record (sigh...) 'Oceans Of Fantasy' - I like a lot but would prefer the poster gatefold had been a lot different. I think it lets the rest of the cover down. There was a great photo (never used) of Boney M. in those 'Oceans' bodysuits but they wore specialised stage make-up and masks that made them look like underwater aliens! Now that would have been a great poster! I love the first four LP covers and my favourite single cover is probably 'Children Of Paradise' and 'Rivers Of Babylon'. I also think 'The Magic Of Boney M.' is a wickedly packaged greatest hits and their best hits cover.

I love the 'Magic' cover too. The cut away M was a simple but good idea. I was looking forward to seeing more of those group shots in the Didi Zill book, but that seems to have gone quiet. I used to have a great Boney M poster which came in a magazine which i can't remember the name of, but basically it opened out into a massive poster. It must be from the same photoshoot as the 'I'm Born Again' cover as they are in the same outfits. Basically it looks as if they have all just lost it! Great to see them all having fun. It would be great to see that happen again. I read somewhere that they were notorious for getting the giggles.

I have it on good authority that they were notorious for a lot more than that!! All FOUR of them! That's what annoys me about a lot of the 'butter wouldn't melt in your mouth' attitude of some of them... it's nonsense! Hey, this was the Seventies.... I remember the poster you are taking about! The interaction between all four of them just worked so well. The photoalbum from Didi Zill is not out until September but it is coming. Imagine the laugh doing the 'Take The Heat Off Me' and 'Love For Sale' covers!!

Well, I liked the "Children Of Paradise" cover very much too and as far as the albums are concerned I too would choose "Oceans Of Fantasy". It just looks sooooooo cool. The worst cover I think- or the two worst, I should say- are in my opinion "Eye Dance" and "10.000 Lightyears". The faces are so small that you must look very closely to regocnize them. And to me it looks as if the heads were badly copied onto the bodies. You cannot really see Boney M. and I'm talking about the wonderful days of the large record covers. And I have to add- I loved all those German 12 inch singles in black with the big Boney M. logo and the two A- Sides. They were really a trademark and what I liked about those 12 inches is that the songs were realley extended or remixed- aspopposed to many other groups. ABBA for example released "Lay All Your Love On Me" on 12 inch only and all you got was the same boring version as on the album "Supeer Trouper" ( same goes for 12 inch singles of "The Winner Takes it All", Chiquitita" and so on). But with Boney M. the 12 inches were a little opus. I'm still fascinated by the lonmg versions of "My Friend Jack" or "Gadda Da Vida". Put all that on a CD, dear Mr Farian, and it would be something.

P.S. and I thought the cover for "The Carnival Is Over" was quite cute. Strange that nobody mentioned the "Nightflight To Venus" cover. What do you think of that ?

It would be great to get the original full versions of certain tracks reissued to CD and whatever other unheard original recordings that Frank produced for Boney M. There has to be more than a few lying about in the vaults... The twelve-inch version of 'My Friend Jack' is just fantastic as is 'Gadda-Da-Vida'. There should have been more of this type of thing you know! And God why hadn't he got Marcia out front on something like these productions?! The woman is built to sing like this!

Quite right, jd, I too would love to have the full version of songs like "Children Of Paradise" or at least the single version of 'Gadda Da Vida'. At the moment (as far as I know) there's only the 2:59 version available which is a shame because the longer version is soooooooo much better. And yes, it would have been a great song for Miss Barrett to do. And as far as full versions are concerned- don't you think that there must be longer versions of " I Feel Good" or "Living Like A Moviestar" ? Everytime I listen to those songs I think that the fade out comes to early because Mr Farian wanted to squeeze as much material on vinyl as possible ( as we all know he did that with infamously shortened verion of "Ribbons Of Blue" on Oceans of Fantasy). Any other songs that we want the full version of ??

"Children Of Paradise" longer versions like the original 7"inch single are on some rare cds like 1989 german cd "ma baker" with the night flight to venus back cover as its art work this cd included "dancing in the streets" as well, again this is a super rare boney m cd

Are you sure that the Belgium compilations are including the 7" version of "Children Of Paradise"? I have the CD's and my editions are all including the 3:18 edit from "More Gold".
Lange.
