Yes Frida is great. She way always considered the less attractive one at the time, but when you look back she was always stunning (clothes went a bit weird at times!) and has kept her looks whereas Agnetha's stresses seem to have got the best of her. I bought Frida's DVD recently. There are some good documentaries on it and a very revealing interveiw (if you don't mind subtitles) I haven't seem the Oceans of Fantasy photograph that you mention. Maybe it will appear in the book in September.

I hope that this picture is in the Didi Zill collecion too. It's truly weird and wonderful! I think with more funky tracks like 'No Time To Lose', 'Hold On I'm Coming' and 'Bye Bye Bluebird' that 'Oceans Of Fantasy' (and I love this track too) would have been a better album. I know that Farian was under huge pressure to ensure Boney M. would continue with its success but he was playing it too safe with some of the material. I think that didn't help their credability (in a dance sense, anyway) and the image was too 'squeeky clean' to be taken seriously. The 'Oceans' outfits are great though and amazing to see on stage when they played live. Imagine that party arriving on stage and the effect of those outfits! It really looked like they had come on stage almost naked!

l remember back in 1979, Boney M did the BBC show Seaside Special. I believe it was recorded in Jersey, and they previewed loads of tracks from the Oceans of Fantasy album. I think they wore the costumes from that photoshoot when they performed 'Oceans of Fantasy'. The fantasy of course was that they were singing it at all as all the vocals for that tracks were Franks! But never mind. It was a great show. l wonder if the recording still exists. Knowing the BBC they've probably wiped it I remember them peforming Let It All Be Music, Bahama Mama and l'm Born Again. I also remember them presenting their brand new single 'El Lute' and being rather disappointed. The song did grow on me, but l was much more excited by 'Gotta Go Home' when they performed that later in the show. I guess they were trying to do another 'Rivers/Brown Girl but it didn't really work out.

From what I rememer the end of the show was an open air concert with Boney M. The cover shot for 'My Friend Jack' is from that show.

Yes you are right about the show and the open air perforamce at the end - it was great! I loved the medley they did at the end of this show of the Boney M. Hits, perhaps the forerunner for '6 Years of Boney M. Hits?

They did an earlier Seaside Special which was filmed near me in Paignton,Devon. I think it was 1978 when they were at their peak. According to someone that I know, he met them on the site where the cirus tent was and they were laughing hysterically and erm how shall i put it..... not quite with us!!! I didn't really get the Boney M bug until Raputin was released so sadly I missed my chance to see them. I can remember though a cousin of mine having an album with Sunny on it and asking her to play it over and over. I also remember being fascinated by their performance of 'Belfast' on TOTP. The costumes were amazing and l loved the song even though i wasn't a record buyer at the time and didn't really know who they were.

Boney M. were erm 'not quite with us' alot of the time and I mean all four of them! There was more than a touch of 'Rasta' going on than in just the music! Imagine the laugh you would be having all the same, dressed up in the maddest of outfits and not knowing what was coming next. You'd have to laugh! They also had some great stage costumes when they were gigging. In Dublin they wore these striped outfits with yards of chiffon (one change) and performed a fantastic live version of 'He Was A Steppenwolf'! I saw some other photo somewhere of amazing black dresses they wore on stage in Italy - very Shirley Bassey in design with lots of sequins and cut aways to reveal lots of flesh... the whole underlying sexiness of it all was very tangable a big part of their appeal. I think that's a big part of what is missing from the later album covers (and their content). The image of the band (I think) was a mistake to play down into what it became later.

There was a beautiful picture of Marcia on the home page of her webite yesterday looking really well. She was i guess wearing a wig, but good for her - it looked like the Marcia of old. Hopefully some of the revealing outfits you describe will appear in the new book!

I saw the picture of Marcia and she looks really good! Go on girl! I really take my hat off to her because she is just the ticket! She is amazingly positive and a real example to us all. There is a new picture of her on the Marcia Barret Site aswell which is great. I was kinda getting use to her bald though! She looked fantastic then too!

I just think that with her wig it looks like Marcia again. It was brave of Marcia to be photographed for her album and publicity shots without hair, but i think with the wig more people will recognise her , and may'be this would have helped her launch. i know it's sad but people are very shallow sometimes where image is concerned. Good luck to her anyway and good health. I wish that I could have her positive attitude sometimes.

I was just thinking about the WORST Boney M. album cover and came to the conclusion that the worst packaging I have EVER seen on such a record would be the German release of 'The Best Of Ten Years'! What were they thinking of? The UK release is, by far, a 1000% improvement!
