Thanks for the information - does anyone else think that this compilation is a bit expensive for what it is? I like th idea of the DVD reissue but simply because this time they have had the common sense to put an actual image of 'The Four' on the cover. I wonder which mix they will give away free with this box set?

I guess it is this dreadful Non-Stop Mega-Mix from 1986. Amazing that Sony recycles everything.. creating a different cover and thinking that fans are stupid enough to buy everything!? I stopped long time ago to buy every release...

Another new compilation with nothing new. Will I be buying it? No I wont. Surely these do not sell well.

What FF and Sony do here is like a study case of "how to kill a legend"....
And on top of it, the Boney's, maybe with the exception of Liz won't get a dime of Royalties from the a****** of Frankfurt.. although they're entitled to.. so, do I want to support this guy?.. No I won't.

€50 is a ridiculous price.

Can I suggest a couple of Boney M releases that I might be interested in buying. Firstly, a double cd anthology featuring all the original single mixes and edits. Secondly, how about a singles box set like they have done with Abba and Blondie featuring all the classic singles with the original A and B sides with each disc in its original artwork and packed in a nice box. I always loved the Boney M single artwork!

A cool idea for the anthology but I think it would need to be bigger than two CDs to include all the mixes and edits (maybe even four!). I think if they were to compile the original first edits/mixes that were issueed (like 'Ma Baker' with the string solo, 'No Woman, No Cry with the dead stop, the first single version of 'My Friend Jack' with no guitar, etc).
How easy to decide what would appear on such a double CD would be a hard one to qualify since there seem to be so many variations in the mixes issued in different territories - a lot of work but a great collection that you could properly entice fans with.
It would be easier to do the suggested box-set with individual single CDs (like Abba and Blondie) but you know the record company would take an easy option and use the already 'accepted' single versions as catalogued. But the artwork would be great! I love the single covers too!

Hi, I have done an interview with Frank Eberlein regarding the 4CD box-set "Hit Story". It tells about the idea behind the box-set as well as the working process. You can find it on www.musiclange.dk in the "News" section.

Thanks for the interview wth Frank - I'd love his job!
Interesting to see what could be coming further down the line from Sony on Boney M. Just for all you Chic fans too, a new 4-CD box set (WITH A VINYL FORMAT - Sony if you are reading this) is being issued next month including rarities and very cool remixes from the CHIC organization. I'm waitng on further details but it sounds great already!
If you are talking to Frank and they want somebody to help catalogue the BM tracks in their archive please let him know that I am available (lol) and would tackle it like a vocation!
I'm so envious of your work Frank Eberlein and thank you for all your wonderful labours and the interview with Danni.

Yeah, interesting interview. You have to wonder what is left in those archives, and why it is being held back? Surely time is running out for these 'treasures' to be of any interest?

I was thinking the same thing Richard. Surely these treasures are only of interest to us diehard fans who were around 30-35 years ago. I cannot see the kids of today or casual music buyers being interested in them. There have been alot of compilations recently. Do we really need any more. I cannot see many people spending €50 on this.
Come on Frank, let them into your archives please...

I understand that Sony are not aiming this product at us at all - instead for a more general buying public via the commercial TV station(s).
I reckon if they are thinking ahead maybe they could be working on such a collection for the next big anniversary (?) and really pull out all the stops, including a selecion of good sleeve notes and images. and YES also a vinyl format !!! The greatest difficulty I see is actually getting their hands on the right master tapes.
like I posted earlier the CHIC organization will release a box set next month (CD first). This is also a four CD-set to include full lenghth, remix, unreleased, etc and will come in at a cost of... €30. It is available on French Label Rhino Records (which I think is one of my favourite dance labels that have been around for decades - along with Maligator Records that issue Cerrone) There are details, I believe, on Amazon.
This collection has been worked on for years with Nile Rogers personally overviewing. I can't wait to get my mits on it (October 18th is the release date).
I personally don't believe that any collection has gotten it right since the original 'The Magic Of Boney M.' was released in 1980! A similar idea like this would have to be improved on for now and it would have to be at leat two CD/LPs (give us a gatefold LP cover!).

Frankie Boy plans a new Boney M album... set for release on the 7th of January.. with the title "Barbra Streisand - The Album"! No Joke!!!! Farian is never too embarrassed to jump on a bandwagon to cash in on some hype.
