John, you always seem to be very well informed so I wouldn't doubt what you say, but are you sure that the 'My Friend Jack' clip was broadcast? I never used to miss Top Of The Pops and i just don't remember seeing them perform it apart from on the Little and Large show. Imagine having to sit through 30 minutes of Little and Large to see 4 minutes of Boney M!

I remember watching the TOTP clip (which was recorded from the Little & Large set) when it happened. I watched the Little & Large Show as well to see them - I know, the agony of it all.
There was no male vocals in the track and the mix was very flat. It's a pity that a bigger effort wasn't made with this promotion but I don't think the record company (definitely in the UK) were too bothered to promote this one.
It was released two weeks after 'The Magic Of Boney M.' so anybody who had the package had the new single.
I loved the suits though for this one and 'My Friend Jack' is one of my favourite Boney M. tracks.

I too loved "My Friend Jack". It was so diffferent from all those calypso- styled "Hoorays" and "Boats" and "Calendars". I was very impressed with the twelve- inch version of this song. In Germany it said on the cover "very long version"- and yes, that's true but it never gets boring. It's a very good production and the sound of the harmonies is just great.

Hi you all. Sorry to start the discussion again but I am so fed up with this that I want you to know what boneymitchell2006 is all about. I will never mention it again. But this is the personal message I received from that person:
"why are you being so nasty to me i would not have said anything bad if that john guy had not been nasty to me with his coments i have only ever posted a nasty coment back if i got one first. anyway iv screen caped your post and liz will get sent a copy by email thanks for showing the world how nasty you are oliver. grow up please and b4 you ask no i cant copy anything for you".
I will not take this. I will not be terrorized by e-mails and be told what to think and say. This is a fan forum and nothing else.

Meanwhile back to the matter in hand. Don't you think that the singles from this album had excellent covers. In particular the cover shot for 'Gotta Go Home' was great. Where did Bobby get that shirt and trouser set? It's such a colourful shot. The cover shot for 'I'm Born Again' was excellent too.
I loved the inner album sleeve too with the lyrics on, even if they didn't always stick to them. It was good too to see the faces of the team behind Boney M, as it says on the sleeve 'The 5th member of Boney M'.
It was just a shame that the music didn't completely live up to the packaging.

I suppose that Frank Farian and Boney M. were always going to have a difficult time living up to the 'Nightflight To Venus' album with 'Oceans Of Fantasy'. To be fair to Frank he was under huge pressure from the record company, his partners and the group about this album's content and where Boney M. would go from here.
The calypso type sound was played to death by this stage with the material and I would have liked to see a development along the lines of 'My Friend Jack' which is a fantastic track.
When you hear the funky tracks on the album like 'Bye Bye Bluebird', 'No Time To Lose' and 'Hold On I'm Coming' then you can see the potential as to where he was going with things but it is a pity that it was not more along these lines. 'Gotta Go Home' is a simple enough sing-a-long track and very much in the Boney M. style of single that really works!
