Great album, but l'm a bit confused. My old faithful 'Guiness Book' stated that this album reached No 60 in the UK charts for 1 week only.
However, my new updated version says that it reached No 13 and spent 10 weeks on the chart. Anyone know the truth?

Hi richardjohn. I'm only surmising but it may be that 'Love For Sale' re-entered the charts when Boney M. had so much success in '78. Are the dates the same in both books? That would seem logical enough. The first release of the album had the gangster pose from the back of the cover as the front with 'Daddy Cool' on it instead of 'Belfast'. When the album was reissued it had the normal cover and 'Belfast' instead of 'Daddy Cool'.

The book was maybe wrong for years. I prefer to think that it reached No13,maybe after the success of Nightflight. I know it was certified Gold, so that would be unlikely from one week at No 60.

You should check out the awards for the UK singles. The singles that got award certs (when they were released) are 'Daddy Cool' (Gold), 'Belfast' (Silver), 'Rivers Of Babylon' (Platinum), Mary's Boy Child - Oh My Lord' (Platinum) and 'Gotta Go Home' (Silver)! None of the rest achieved awards when they were in the charts Boney M.'s first Number One in Ireland was 'Belfast' and their last chart hit was the 1992 Mega Mix (They were No. 3 for Christmas - Ahh!)

How did they get away with that cover though? Maybe Didi Zills book will reveal all! Bodystockings or not?

No body stockings for this photo session- it was a quick 'whip' off of the bras, breast in hands and off they went! Liz Mitchell managed to put her conscience aside (aswell as her bra) for this one! ;D It's all talked about in the Boney M. book by John Shearlaw- an interesting and insightful read on the goings on of Boney M. in their heyday. The book covers the Boney M.'s history prior to the release of 'Oceans Of Fantasy'.

I must read that book again. The bindings gone but all the pages are still there. l wish someone would write an updated book. There's such a lot more to the story after 1979. I know a lot of it would not be all that pleasant, but it would be interesting to read all the same. The more I think of it, it is such as shame that they can't put their differences aside one more time and do something positive together. I really don't want to get back to the blame game because it takes more than one person to make an arguement, but I just think it's so sad. They are missing a golden opportunity to boost all of their careers. Mind you if the 'Daddy Cool' musical keeps going from crisis to crisis may'be the'd be better off keeping their distance from it!

A new and comprehensive no holds barred book on Boney M. is exactly what is needed and I think it would make excellent reading and enlightenment on exactly what went on in the group. I heard the first mention of the 'Daddy Cool' Musical on Channel 4 last Saturday and it was quite positive. I think the best promotion that Frank Farian can possibly bring to the musical is if he invites all the members of the group to the premiere and they agree to show! What a night that would be..

Lets hope that can happen. There has been so much negative stuff surrounding the Boney M story, it would be great to have something positive!
